A Run for Life: Color Manila Nite Run 2
The marathon for 2014 - Color Manila Nite Run | Alabang Festival nr Vivere Hotel | 6PM
This post may be a bit overdue since the event happened on the cold night of February 22, 2014, it took me a while because I had to wait on Art and Bryan to send me photos. Yes, I was too lazy to capture photos on my phone, forgive me.
Walking around the mall after work and just about to play, Just Dance (this is to kick off the stress and pressures from work and life oh life), from my peripheral blinking loudly was a poster for Color Manila Nite Run. Then? Well, you know it. I signed up for a short distance run, the 3K, I had to have enough energy to party the roads neon after. Signing up along with me was Art and his friends, so all the more reason to get psyched for the run!
In all honesty, I didn't get to do much serious training or prepping because of well.. what is my excuse, hmm... I hate to say this, but yeah, I was drowning in a bit of work. *smiles sheepishly* When we got to the event I was even thinking, boy am I glad I'm only doing a 3K. The gun went off, I ran past Art and Bryan, and even looked behind to search for their faces in the crowd and looked back and dashed and weaved myself to get ahead, I even passed the hydration table- and I was laughing evilishly in my mind, mwaahahahaha I am ahead of them, only to realize I made the wrong turn and ran a full 5K. Funny huh! Art and Bryan got to our meeting spot earlier of course but I still finished the race in time to get my finisher's medal for the 3K when I did a 5K! Awoooooo! (the medal is in my backpack and hasn't been taken out since that evening, how slothy of me...)
Overall, the event was a total awesome blast - it was cold for a night run, but the warm up with the Philippine Volcano's rugby star player, Chris Everingham got everyone hot, hot ready for the gun off. The after party Color Festival surprise, colored powder bomb + wicked music rejuvenated the crowd's energy and people went wild, jumping up and down, by this time I literally felt like a colorful neon jellyfish bobbing up and down along the wave of people while finishing the last of my pizza and humongous juice (meal of the day for me).
- Color bombing - while our eyelids protect from dust, this may irritate those who are highly sensitive or have irritable eyes. Also, if part of a mosh make sure to refrain from opening the mouth too wide- people can cough and choke on powder.
- The positive - those who come back stinky sweaty are given an immediate fresh scented powder shower. (I'm thinking it could have been colored baby powder or dry shampoo)
